Thomas Dean was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He moved to the United States with his family when he was 3 ½ years old.

Thomas graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Communications.

Thomas entered the telecommunications industry as a salesperson and went on to become a Senior Director of Data Product Management and Development for a major telecommunications company.

Artist Statement

Who can say when a photograph stops being a “snapshot” and becomes an artistic expression?  When I create an image, I go beyond simple documentation.  
I spend time gaining an understanding of the subject and its place in this world. I work very hard to capture the inner “sense” of what I see and what I feel as I stand in front of the subject to make the image.

-How do I respond to it emotionally?  
-How does the subject fit into its environment?  
-What does the subject convey to me?  

I strive to answer these questions when I make the final image.  The ultimate goal for my images is to have the viewer experience what I experienced when I created the image.
